The mission statement at Mater Dei Child Care Center (MDCCC) is to care for young children in a nurturing, spiritual, educational environment.
The director, Margaret Lachowsky, began working at MDCCC in October 2011. She has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Early Childhood from Fort Hays State University. She has 30 hours of college credit beyond the degree from other universities. She has directed child care programs for 13 ½ years and has taught elementary school for 12 years including public preschool. She and her husband, Steve, have 5 grown children and two grandchildren. In her spare time she enjoys reading, sewing, and puzzling.
The Creative Curriculum program is the base of the educational piece at the center. The center uses an assessment tool developed and distributed by the Success By 6 Early Learning Action Team in March, 2007 to measure the child’s learning by semesters. The Conscious Discipline program is used to help children achieve self-regulation. The preschoolers attend “Jesus Time” monthly at Mater Dei Church with the director.
